The
Duke of Edinburgh award has a long history in
Castlederg high school. It has been offered to
senior students for over 40 years. Currently it is
offered as an extra curricular activity to years 11
and 12 for the bronze award and on successful
completion of the bronze the students can then go
onto the silver award. This year there are 14 year
11 and 12 students doing their bronze award and 5
year 13 and 14 students have successfully completed
their silver award. These awards will be presented
at a civic reception before the summer.
The
structure of the award is in four sections –
Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition. All
these sections are carried out by the pupils in
their own time or as part of an extra curricular
activity in school. The award group meets every
Monday after school in Mr Small’s (Award Leader)
room. Big changes this year are edofe where all
assessments and log books are completed online.
